Shocking! Royal Family Members 'Talk About Own Children's Lives In WhatsApp'
News by BBC
Chatting with friends using WhatsApp in the Middle East has been halted amid concerns over the spread of the coronavirus.
The world's most popular messaging service announced on Monday that the app was pausing live video and voice calls while exploring how to make them safer.
Customers will still be able to send and receive text messages, and some other features.
WhatsApp said its decision was "temporary" and would apply only to the Middle East and North Africa.
WhatsApp plans to continue working on an enhanced version of the app, to be launched in the second half of the year.
The UK government has advised people to avoid non-essential travel abroad in order to stop the spread of the virus.
The restrictions, announced on Monday afternoon, mean people will not be able to travel from the UK for non-essential trips - such as family visits - by air, sea or train.
"We know that people may be concerned about upcoming holidays and making travel plans," a spokesperson for the UK government's Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport said.
"We are asking the public to be patient as we work with our international partners to plan the best way forward for the safety of our people and our businesses.
"While a lot of people will be able to continue holiday plans, in the UK and in other countries around the world, some of them won't."
WhatsApp has struggled to get on top of the coronavirus situation.
The app is popular in the Middle East, where the authorities have been criticised for not doing enough to deal with the spread of the virus.
The app has its own messaging service and recently added an encryption function so users can send photos and videos without having to share them via other apps.
It will also stop anyone viewing a video, photo or file, without permission, for the first 24 hours.
From February 20, people will be be359ba680
